Nelson (Nell) Allport Thompson Palmer, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2004. Born on December 20, 1945 to the late Andrew Hunter and Justyne Wayland Thompson. She is survived by Burt Palmer of Florence, S.C.; her children, Hunter Kaye Palmer of Roanoke, O.B. Palmer III of Greensboro, N.C. and Sara Justin Palmer of Alexandria, Va.; sisters, Mary Hunter T. Barrow and husband, Lindsey B. Sr. of Roanoke, and Melanie T. Hoeferkamp and husband, John W. of Wilson, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Lindsey Buchanan Barrow Jr. of Athens, Ga., Andrew Hunter Barrow and James Weston Barrow of Roanoke, and Katherine Page Hoeferkamp and Samuel Pence Hoeferkamp of Wilson, N.C. Nelson was employed at the Roanoke Orthopaedic Center for the past 10 years. The family will receive friends at her home, 4504 Cheshire Lane, on Friday, March 5, 2004 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Burial Park with the Rev. George R. Pruitt Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 554, Roanoke, Va. 24003-0554.
